We have bid successfully at auction for a fine book once owned by the Scottish economist Adam Smith. The substantial portion of Smith's library is already in our Special Collections; this book has been in private hands and it is now available to the public for the first time. The book is an account of an experimental ship by the inventor Patrick Miller, called 'The elevation, section, plan, and views, of a triple vessel' (Edinburgh, 1787). It was specially bound by the Edinburgh binder William Scott.
