Philosophy Department photos

University Archives have recently come into the possession of two photographs of the Philosophy department, dating from the early 20th century. Both are interesting but as a pair they are even more so. On the occasion of the later photograph they tried as much as was possible to recreate the seating arrangement of the earlier one.

These photographs, dating (we think) from c1910 and c1930, will be the subject of a forthcoming Collections Highlights feature, and will be accompanied by an appeal to help identify some of those in the groups.

Masterpieces Exhibition

We've started planning our 'Masterpieces' exhibition which will open on Friday 4th December 2009, in the new Exhibition Room on the ground floor of the redeveloped Main Library. We're going to show some of the greatest treasures of the university's collections: medieval manuscripts, great books of the Renaissance and modern Scottish poetry. Plus a rather magnificent bronze sculpture of a horse. We'll keep you posted as things develop.
