New CRC exhibition: Alexander Adam, enlightened educator

During November we are hosting a display of books and objects relating to Alexander Adam (1741-1809), who was Rector of Edinburgh's Royal High School. Adam rose from obscurity to run one of the world's oldest educational establishements and to teach figures such as Sir Walter Scott. He was a popular teacher who cared for his pupils; he believed in the importance of a broad education and wrote numerous books, particularly on grammar and Latin - many of which are now exhibited in our Display Wall. For the Royal High School, which traces its history back to 1128 A.D., see http://www.royalhigh.edin.sch.uk/index.htm
