University histories online

We often refer researchers to the various published histories of the University, particularly as suggested background reading before they look at archival material. Quick reference copies of many of these are available in the CRC Reading Room or (for rarer ones) can be requested for consultation there. This of course is of little use to the remote researcher or to anyone whao wants to do some background reading before coming to see us.

We are therefore delighted to see a growing corpus of texts of this type appearing on www.archive.org and a simple search for university Edinburgh returns an extensive list of books and publications that may be of use to researchers. We thank colleagues in libraries and other institutions that are participating in this initiative for doing this work.
